Our favorite places to grab a healthy meal after work

It doesn’t take a dental professional to know that what you eat has a direct impact on your oral health – but you are one, so you probably know better than anyone just how important it is.

So, food is fuel – but food is also fun. And who doesn’t love grabbing a group of friends for a nice dinner out on the town? Or maybe you’re just tired after a long week, and could let someone else handle the meal prep – even better if it’s a professional chef.

From our favorite grab ‘n go joints to the restaurants that offer a bit more atmosphere, here are some of our best picks for places to hit after work for a healthy meal.

Living Kitchen

Living Kitchen likes to keep it green, and offers a wide variety of vegan options – all made from scratch. We love their focus on organic ingredients, and a plant-based meal is rich in vitamins and minerals, which will help keep those teeth strong! And from pad thai to burritos, you can satisfy almost any craving.

Our recommendations: Sweet Potato Sushi rolls for an appetizer; Cauliflower Masala for an entrée.

Flower Child

Interested in more organic options? Head to Flower Child (bonus: they have a great patio for taking in the scenes in South End). They’re keeping it clean, green, and fresh – with vegetarian, vegan, and paleo – and sugar-free, dairy-free, and gluten-free – menu items to suit different dietary needs. You can enjoy a mouth-watering meal, but keep it healthy while you’re at it!

Our recommendations: the Watermelon Heirloom Tomato Salad and the Mother Earth Bowl.

Kid Cashew

Kid Cashew also has a wide variety of options, offering everything from small plates to salads to burgers to vegan options – all with a Mediterranean influence. If you’re looking for a drink after a long day, they have fun, unique ones to choose from (check out the Goat’s Milk cocktail!).

For a quick midday pick-me-up, stop by and grab one of their “pick 2” lunches.

Our recommendations: the Quinoa Stuffed Avocado and the Flame-Grilled Domestic Lamb Burger.

Quick Hits

While we love being able to sit down for a relaxing dinner and drink after work, sometimes you just want to pick up a meal on the way home – and chill out. We love Chopt for great salads; they have classic salads and grain bowls, and each month they have different “destination” menu items – salads and bowls influenced by global cuisine. For a solid staple, try the Palm Beach salad.

Other great grab ‘n go options include Cava (think Qdoba, but Mediterranean), and Green Brothers Juice Company and Clean Juice both offer smoothie meal replacements, acai and grain bowls, and a focus on fresh ingredients (and both are local, founded right here in Charlotte!). The best part? You can be in and out in a matter of minutes, and be stretched out on the sofa in no time.

Healthy eating is one of the main pillars of healthy living – especially when it comes to oral hygiene. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be flavorful and fun! In a growing city like Charlotte, there are always new restaurants popping up – so be on the lookout for even more healthy hotspots.

Another bonus of grabbing something on the town? You don’t have to do the dishes – and that sure sounds appetizing.
