Our favorite Charlotte places to enjoy after work this summer

Long day with a full day of back-to-back patients? You’re in luck. Summer’s back and better than ever, thanks to loosening Covid restrictions. So when you wrap up with your last patient, ditch the scrubs – we’ve got plenty of plans for you to kick back and relax on a warm summer evening.

Charlotte’s got lots of great options – from enjoying a cocktail on a rooftop to grabbing a hotdog during the seventh inning stretch, there are plenty of activities to choose from, no matter what you’re in the mood for.

Cave in to your competitive side.

Brain still buzzing from a productive day at work? Maybe you’re ready to tackle some trivia. Most events recur weekly – try themed trivia at Brewers at 4001 Yancey on Mondays, Mindless Minutia Trivia at Lenny Boy Brewing on Wednesdays, and then head over to Angry Ale’s on Thursdays for “name that tune.” Grab some coworkers and meet some friends to build the team to beat – and don’t forget a catchy team name.

Work it out.

Feel like moving your body after sitting all day? Check out one of the free evening workouts around town. Get your sweat on with Charlotte Fit Fam at bootcamps at Summit Seltzer on Mondays and Unknown Brewing on Thursdays, or try yoga at Triple C on Wednesdays. With the days lasting longer, you might even be able to watch the sunset to distract you from the pain of that twentieth burpee.

Pop a bottle.

After a long day, sometimes all you want to do is grab a drink and relax. Take in the city views and sip a fruity cocktail at one of the many rooftop bars, like Cordial in SouthPark or City Lights in Uptown. Or chill at some of the best patios around – try RuRu’s and Suffolk Punch. Snag a beer at Food Truck Friday at Sycamore Brewing, and then take a stroll along the Rail Trail – you can usually spot a street art exhibit – and top the night off with some ice cream from Two Scoops or Jeni’s. (And don’t forget to get your picture in front of the Confetti Hearts Wall!)

Take in some tunes.

Want to crank those chill vibes up a notch? Hang out and listen to some live music. Sycamore has music with the food trucks, and Olde Mecklenburg Brewery has a live band every Friday (and Saturday!). If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, head out to the U.S. Whitewater Center on Thursdays and Fridays (and Saturdays!) for River Jam – great food, great music, great atmosphere; the perfect summer night. You might even want to pick up a season pass and spend your weekend on the rapids, ziplining, or rock climbing – a great way to relieve stress after a long week.

Batter up.

Charlotte has a lot of great sports teams to keep up with throughout the year – the Panthers, the Hornets, and the brand new Charlotte FC. But during the summer, you’ve got to catch some baseball. Get a group together and grab some tickets to a Knights game – on Fridays, there’s a fireworks show after the game. And then, if you’re up for it – it’s finally the weekend, after all – head to an Uptown bar like Prohibition or Dandelion Market.
